Bakr al Jaber ist ein 25 jähriger Dichter aus Syrien und lebt im Moment in Utrecht, in Holland. Seine Arbeit erkundet die Beziehung zwischen der Vielfalt der Schönheit, Krieg und der Dualität des Seins.

Während er stark von der arabischen Poesie und dessen Schreibstils beeinflusst ist, ist seine Arbeit fern der Tradition.

Er benutzt die Poesie als Brücke, zwischen den Werten seiner Heimat und der Komplexität der westlichen Gesellschaft.

Bakr Al Jaber is a 25 year old poet from Syria, currently living in Utrecht, The Netherlands. His work explores the relationship between the universality of beauty, war and the duality of being.

While being highly influenced by Arabic poetry and style of writing, his work is far from traditional; in a sense that he uses poetry as a bridge between the values of home and the complexes of western society.

I try not to fall in love with you
The pens have been raised and the folios (sheets) have dried
The walls gather and create an alliance against me
The jailers sentence me with another five life sentences

What is happening is that girls don’t believe me when I tell them I am from Chili
And they insist that I am Syrian
And that what I have been through influenced my psychological and mental abilities
